The idea of Antichrist can be traced to the Babylonian myth of Tiamat, the dragon of chaos, who was the opponent of the Babylonian high god. Tiamat is roughly equivalent to the sea and was female. All apocalypses are traditional. They reveal ancient lore and represent its adaptation to new circumstances. This lore was transmitted orally as esoteric teaching. This can be seen in careful comparison of commentaries on the apocalypse and is sometimes openly acknowledged in warnings of this dangerous knowledge which is revealed at specially critical times.
