        637. Smith, Marian W. "Towards a Classification of Cult Movements." Man 59, 1959: 8-12.
        A review of Barnett 1957 (item 64) and an attempt to draw up a typology. Smith suggests "vitalistic" as a category for movements aiming to integrate aspects of a foreign culture. This category parallels "nativism" in its level of abstraction. Another category is "synthesism," where, like the Sikhs, a movement aims to integrate selected aspects of two cultures. Most movements do this in fact but only some intentionally.
