653. Stark, Rodney. "Must All Religions Be Supernatural?" In The Social Impact of New Religious Movements edited by Bryan Wilson. New York: Rose of Sharon Press, 1981.
Stark holds out rigorously for the inclusion of the supernatural in definition of religion, because doing so allows for fruitful contrast among movements which might otherwise be confused. He goes on to adduce what he considers important differences between religions and naturalistic world-view systems. This amounts to a rehash of the Stark-Bainbridge compensators theory (item 648 ff).
654. . "Introduction." In Religious Movements: Genesis, Exodus and Numbers edited by Rodney Stark. New York: Paragon House, New ERA Books. 1985.
Stark warns about faddism in the sociology of religion and the pressures exerted on it by interest groups, which can have the effect of degrading it to no more than substandard journalism. This book has the support of the Unification Church, which Stark is at pains to rationalize.
